In this episode of The Dragon Con Report, we suit up for a thrilling conversation with Laurence Lagnese, event coordinator for the Palmetto Knights!

Laurence shares insights into the world of armored combat and the rich pageantry of medieval mayhem that the Palmetto Knights bring to Dragon Con each year. We delve into the history and intensity of live steel combat, what it takes to compete in the Dragon's Cup, and why the Knight Fights have become a fan-favorite spectacle at the convention.

The Palmetto Knights is a nonprofit international sports team based out of South Carolina with various clubs in the southeast. This medieval fight team, which includes both men and women, focuses on the research and training to recreate the ancient art of Medieval and Renaissance foot combat. The highlight of the con is the Dragon’s Cup Tournament. Participants include other reenactment organizations, who also fight and compete across the USA and internationally. They will bring their real-world insight into the equipment so they can truly discuss and educate on how effective they were on the battlefield. Each year, we present an entertainment unlike no other as we draw from history to conduct an unchoreographed combat experience leveraging our expertise in battle effectiveness of tactics and weaponry.

AmericasMart, a key location within Dragon Con, becomes a bustling hub of activity during con. To give us an insider’s perspective, we have our very own Mike Gordon, a veteran vendor with years of experience setting up his booth and engaging with the con-goers. Mike shares his insights into the dynamic environment, the challenges and rewards of being a vendor, and the evolution of the artist alley over the years.

Joining Mike is the talented artist and writer, Greg Burnham, known for his distinctive artwork and engaging storytelling. Greg provides a fresh viewpoint on what it’s like to present and sell art in such a lively and competitive setting. Both Mike and Greg discuss the importance of networking with fellow artists, connecting with fans, and the overall impact of Dragon Con on their professional careers. They also offer tips and anecdotes about the preparation and effort that goes into making a successful appearance at the con.
